walking on EGGSHELLS
A Siren Theatre Company and Scissor Kick production, written by Emma Lynne Harley
What does
“moving on”
after the end of an abusive relationship look like?
Britney Spears meets neuroscience, sci-fi, cabaret and theoretical physics to ask:
A celebration of survival and a humorous insight into living and navigating relationships with Complex PTSD.
Brain chemistry and Complex Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD) as a physiological time-machine
The theoretical physics behind time travel and parallel universes
The overwhelming amount of pop music about worrying relationship dynamics (but you’ll still dance to it - Looking at you, “Toxic” by Britney Spears)
Simultaneous strength and fragility of eggs - earthly or terrestrial, organic or Fabergé
What it means to be seen as a “burd” growing up in working-class Scotland.
Walking on Eggshells is the autobiographical crack at Post Traumatic Stress Disorder you won’t see coming: Imagine a sci-fi Faberge egg, meets Doctor Who, meets the alternative universe in which Britney Spears became a neuroscientist. A tale of setbacks and small wins following trauma, the audience is welcomed on a time-travelling, musical rollercoaster about:
Influenced by their experiences of being working class, queer, disabled and neurodivergent, W.O.E. fuses autobiographical theatre, cabaret, stand-up and scientific research into a show that asks: What does it really mean to “move on” after an abusive relationship? And is there really life after love?
